Dr. James Chaffers, FAIA, M.Arch.'69, D.Arch.'71, and Dr. Ed Jackson Jr., D.Arch.'93, will participate in a panel discussion, 'Framing a Cultural Ideal,' focused on the inception, design, and construction of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. – which will be officially dedicated and opened in August 2011. The panel will focus on the challenges and opportunities in translating social, ethical, and visual ideals into architectural and landscape space.

Detroiters get 30% fewer DPS construction jobs than promised
An article by CHASTITY PRATT DAWSEY reports that "Detroit residents are getting 30% fewer construction-related jobs than promised during a campaign two years ago for a $500-million construction bond, according to a Detroit Public Schools report."

1. Holder of a State of Michigan architect license
2. Professional degree in Architecture
3. Minimum 10 years experience as Project Architect on non-residential projects over $1 Million cost
4. CAD proficient in the latest version of AutoCad
5. Detroit area residence
FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS MANAGER
1. Strong experience in Deltek ADVANTAGE or similar Project and Financial reporting system used by architects
2. Post High School training in bookkeeping or accounting
3. Minimum 3 years experience as a principal Bookkeeper involving finance and project reporting to management and to outside accountants
4. Strong written and oral communication skills
5. Detroit area residence

Single-family starts slip in line with weak demand fundamentals; multifamily surge is on
The headline number on housing starts for January is strong. That's like saying the economy is showing signs of recovery. Multifamily starts far exceeded consensus expectations, jacking the total, while single-family starts slipped 1%, reflecting continued tenuousness in end demand for new homes in the months ahead.
